The objective of RP2 is to improve the understanding on the nature of carbon and nitrogen transformations in the water column and their degree of coupling, the genetic diversity and ecophysiology of the microorganisms involved, and the mechanisms controlling the magnitude and variability of the sources and sinks of CO2 and N2O. RP2 combines microbial ecology with biogeochemistry.
